Microsoft Said Windows Vista Will Run One Times Faster than Windows XP

While we all are still anxiously waiting for the release of Windows XP, the software giant, Microsoft said that the going-to-be-released-soon Windows Vista operating system will run one times faster than Windows XP. Hence, Microsoft recommends corporate to upgrade to Windows Vista as soon as it is released at the end of this year.

Microsoft claimed that with “User State Migration Tool” and “Application Compatibility Toolkit”, corporate should not worry about the the compatibility issues of different applications.

However, Microsoft didn’t provide any proof to show that the performance improvement of Windows Vista over Windows XP. Hence, this claims remain to be verified by more neutral benchmarkers.

Advice from Gartner: Don’t Upgrade All Your Systems to Windows Vista Right Away

Gartner’s analyst, Annette Jump advices corporate users don’t upgrade to Windows Vista right away.

According to Jump, an operating system takes about 12 to 18 months to become stable. Hence, if Windows Vista is launched in January 2007, then, Windows Vista will become stable only by mid of 2008.

Besides that, Jump also hints that Microsoft might delay the launch date of Windows Vista to March of 2007. Hence, the official launch date of Windows Vista is still a mystery.

Delay of Windows Vista Again but in Europe This Time

Microsoft has given a pretty clear hint that the introduction of Windows Vista operating system will be delayed once again. This time, instead of blaming the development team, Microsoft points her finger to the European Commission saying that the European Commission’s antitrust requirements force Microsoft to delay the birth of Windows Vista in Europe.

However, the representive of European Commision said “It is not up to the Commission to give Microsoft a green light before Vista is put on the market; it is up to Microsoft to accept and implement its responsibilities as a near-monopolist to ensure full compliance with EU competition rules.”

Hence, Windows Vista’s birtdate still remains to be uncertain.

Windows Vista SuperFetch Technology Sucks

One of the latest technology that powered Windows Vista is the SuperFetch technology that makes your favorite programs load faster. How the SuperFetech technology works is it studies the programs that an individual user frequently runs and loads them into memory automatically (be ready to have all your memory sucks by Windows Vista).

For instance, if you run Adobe Photoshop and Firebox every single day, ten Windows Vista will be smart enough to load these applications at start-up .

Hence, in perfect world, Windows Vista susposingly load programs faster because of SuperFetch technology.

Nevertheless, suse Linux kernel developer Andrea Arcangeli was skeptical about this technology. He said “”It might help on a 128MB system that flushes the cache away very fast, but on a 1GB system I doubt it can make a significant difference, and at first glance, it doesn’t seem to be worth the complexity it would introduce,” the Imola, Italy-based developer said in an e-mail interview.”

Arcangeli also said that “in many cases, preloading new memory means flushing away an existing cache. “So it’s not like it’s a “risk-free” operation,” he said. “It may be a good trade-off but it can actually slowdown the system instead of making it faster.”"

We are going to see whether Windows can really beat Linux in terms of performance.

Windows Vista Release Date Set to Be December 7, 2006 ?

According to the software in the Internet (Windows IT Pro), Microsoft has decided to make the release date of Windows Vista to be December 7 of 2006 which kind of what we expect in the beginning.

The report, which claims to be based on “very recent internal Microsoft documentation”, said the first release candidate of the operating system, RC0, will appear on 19 April next year, with the second release candidate due on 28 June 2006.

According to a spokeman from Microsoft, the Windows vista operating system will be available in all channels (retail, full-packaged product and on new PCs) by December. Nevertheless the spokeman didn’t want to comment whether the December 7 release date is correct or not.

First Patch for Windows Vista

Microsoft has released the first security patch for going-to-be-released Windows Vista operating system.

The patch fixes a vulnerability in the way the operating system’s Graphics Rendering Engine processes Windows Meta File images. That bug was first discovered late last month as it was being exploited by cybercriminals to load spyware, adware and other malicious code onto the PCs of unwitting Windows users.
